If you ever get a chance to visit the home office (and we hope that you do), you’ll notice in Karen’s office a clay statue of a man, crafted by a former inmate at Nash Correctional. The level of detail and care in this sculpture is incredible, especially knowing it was made from nothing but dirt!

This inmate obliviously had a remarkable gift for turning the simplest of materials into works of art. Over the years, every time Scottie visited a camp, he would prepare something special for her. In another room, you’ll find two of his other creations—a Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Scottie treasures each one, knowing they took months to complete and were given as heartfelt expression of gratitude.

What’s truly inspiring is how he was able to transform just dirt into something beautiful—a reflection of how God, the ultimate Creator, shapes us from dust into something with purpose and value.

Today, this man is out of prison and, we trust, is on a new path, but his sculptures remain a powerful reminder of the potential for beauty, hope, and restoration in every life. Through his art, we see a glimpse of God’s redemptive power at work.

You are loved,

Les
