Traveling to New Bern, NC this week for the Pamlico “One Day With God” Camp, we were all praying just a little more that usual. The whole staff was feeling the attack of the enemy and we also had a heavy burden for the financial needs of the camp. The New Bern and Bayboro areas had been hit hard by a hurricane last year and were still struggling to recover. We pulled away from the Ministry Building on Wednesday morning with only a fraction of the funds needed to pay for the camp, but believing that God wanted this camp and would provide. When we arrived at St. Mark AME Zion church in Bayboro, we met the most wonderful fellowship of believers who were so gracious and loving; making us feel like their family and opening their doors to provide everything they possibly could to make the camp a success. The Holy Spirit was dwelling in their church and in their lives and we are so grateful for their prayers, love and support.

Even though the enemy was at work, God, as always, was greater and we began to see the camp unfold. One boy, in particular, captured our hearts. This 16 year old had been praying for 10 years that he would be able to spend the day with his dad at a ODWG camp, but the timing had never worked out until the Pamlico camp this weekend. He called Scottie Wednesday night so excited about coming to the camp, asking her and the staff to pray that his dad would hear the gospel and give his heart to Jesus Christ over the weekend. We immediately began to pray and when we met his dad on Friday we saw a man who was definitely being pursued by God. Even though he told Scottie he had settled in his heart long ago that he did not want to be a Christian, we saw a tearful, broken man who was searching for something to fill the void in his life that had become more than he could handle. After the Friday seminar was over, all the volunteers met in the parking lot of the prison, joined hands, and prayed for the Holy Spirit to cover him, not letting him rest until he allowed Jesus to fill the emptiness in his soul. As the day started on Saturday, we saw the dads come together with their children and watched this dad and son joyfilly and tearfully unite, and as the day progressed saw God melt this dad’s heart, and as the invitation was given toward the end of the day and the men and children were invited to pray, he bowed his head. When the group was asked if anyone had prayed to received Christ, tears began to flow and he slowly lifted his hand. What a joy to see his son throw his arms around his dad’s neck and rejoice with him over his salvation. Not only him, but a total of 5 dads, 3 children, and 2 caregivers prayed to receive Christ this weekend. To God be all the glory and honor!!

As Saturday came to a close, Scottie began to write checks to cover camp costs and the traveling expenses of all our wonderful ministry partners who had come to share their messages of hope during the weekend. I still see her now writing checks that at the time had very few funds in the Pamlico account to back them up. We didn’t know how, but we knew that God would be faithful to cover the checks. We started home Saturday evening rejoicing over what we had seen at the camp, and waiting on God to provide. Scottie had received several donations from the wonderful volunteers who came to give their love to the families, and we knew that somehow God would provide it all. As Mike and I were traveling back to Taylorsville, we unexpectedly received a donation from a source that had no idea of our immediate need but felt led by God to give. As we looked at the amount, we were overwhelmed at what God had done. It was not only enough to pay for the remainder of the Pamlico camp, it was also enough to cover the remaining $500 left on the Craven camp.

Isn’t that just like God!! He knew all along there would be provision for Pamlico if we would just follow Him there.

In Christ, Brenda

I want to thank all the volunteers and the staff at Craven for the wonderful Spirit filled event this past weekend. God’s presence was so evident from the moment we got there until the last balloon floated away you knew that God’s people had been praying and preparing their hearts. As the event began on Friday you could tell that the dads wanted to be in the lives of their children and help lead them to be the men and women that they needed to be. On Friday six of the dads prayed to receive Christ as their Saviour, and on Saturday morning a seventh prayed to receive Christ. As we were having our circle of prayer for the children before they arrived on Saturday one of the dads prayed that he would be able to take all that he had learned the previous day and that morning and be the man,and the dad that God intended and that his child needed. As he prayed I began to think about all the challenges that he would face, but I know that God is greater than all our challenges. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says ” And He said to me “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” As the day went on we saw six of the children and six of the caregivers come to Christ. At the end of the day the same dad that prayed that morning came up and wanted to say something. He looked down at the orange wrist band that his child had on to identify the caregiver that could pick him up at the end of the event and then he held up his own wrist and showed his own prison ID band. With tears in his eyes he challenged the other dads to look at their own children and challenged that they all needed to remember what they had learned and do what they needed to do in order that their children would never wear a prison wrist band. As he spoke you could see in the eyes of most of the men that they were determined to be the leaders and dads their children needed. Everyone please join us in prayer that this dads prayer be answered and that not one of the children there would ever wear a prison ID. God is so very good and I know he has great plans for these men and their children. God Bless.

Once again God showed His great love to the inmates, their families and the volunteers by giving us three Spirit filled days. The trip began with a stop at RCCW in Raleigh for a one hour event for Scottie to share her testimony. It was evident from the beginning that God wanted to do great things as we saw nearly 100 women fill a small space and attentively listen as Scottie shared how God reconciled her and her father and saved him before his death. Tears begin to flow as the Spirit moved. At the time of invitation 38 women accepted Christ as their Saviour and then when the Forgiven Ceremony took place 68 women poured out their hearts and let go of hurt and anger. After this it was hard to imagine how this could be sustained over the weekend, but God was just getting started. On Friday we saw 20 men go through the fathering seminar and begin to learn how they could become the men and the dads that God had called them to be. At the time of invitation that morning we saw 3 dads accept Christ and then after our afternoon speaker was through we had 5 more pray to receive Christ and 5 others pray to get closer in their walk. As Saturday started you could feel the moving of the Spirit as the Forgiven Ceremony took place and all 20 of the dads participated. Then the children and caregivers came and God really begin to move. It was a thrill to see a 13 year old weeping and praying to receive Christ as her father stood by weeping himself and then he brokedown and begin to ask Jesus to save him. After they both prayed they began to hug and cry on one another’s shoulder and you could see a change in their eyes. That day we saw 1 dad, 6 children and 14 caregivers receive the greatest gift, salvation through Christ. As I began to tell people of the great three days I was ask why did I think that God was working so strongly in the lives of the inmates and their families. As I began to think on this I believe it is because people are praying and the hearts are being softened to hear the true Gospel. Volunteers lets continue to pray and be open to the moving of the Spirit. Join us at www.getamericapraying.com and join the NC Forgiven Ministry One Day with God group, the South Carolina Forgiven Ministry group and the Michigan Forgiven Ministry One Day with God group to keep up with the most current prayer needs and concerns. Thank you for praying and may God bless and keep you in His will. Serving in His name Mike Boring.

Traveling back to Taylorsville, NC on Sunday morning from the MaComb camp in Michigan, Jack, Scottie, Mike and I were anxious to get home. We keyed Taylorsville into our GPS and sat back for a long ride, hoping it would pass quickly and we would get home before dark. The weekend had been so wonderful and we chatted about what God had done as we traveled. Not being familiar with our route we followed the GPS carefully and could not understand why it kept leading us off the interstate. Twice we were directed off an exit ramp and led through small towns in Michigan before it brought us back to I-75. You can imagine how frustrated we were, wanting to travel as quickly as we could and knowing that each detour was causing our trip to be longer and longer. Finally the GPS seemed to figure out our direct route and we settled in for a long trip on I-75. Soon a rest area sign appeared, and even though we had lost valuable time on our “detours”, we knew we should stop to freshen up.

We pulled the ministry vehicle & Forgiven Ministry trailor into a parking space and visited the restrooms. As Scottie and I came out of the building we saw Mike standing with a woman who was crying, sharing her heart with him. As we walked closer to them we could hear her telling Mike that she and her husband were on their way to visit their son in a juvenile correctional facility in Ohio. They had passed our vehicle on the interstate and saw the logo – “Forgiven Ministry – sharing Christ behind prison walls” on the side of the trailor. She had written down the information off the trailor and had been blessed to be reminded that there are ministries working in the prisons. She was shocked and thrilled when she saw that we had pulled into the rest area where they were. Their son is a Christian young man who had made a very bad decision and will be incarcerated for 4 years. They have to travel many miles to the facility and can only visit him once a month because of finances. She and her husband poured their hearts out to us there in that rest area parking lot, telling us of their struggles and burden for their son. We listened with our hearts breaking, knowing they have a long journey ahead with their son until he comes home. We were able to pray with them, encourage them, and share a devotional with them.

As we watched their car pull away from the rest area, we all looked at each other with tears in our eyes. We realized that if we had not had our two “detours” off the interstate we would not have been at that particular rest area at that time, and would have missed this family completely. I am learning more and more that every moment of our lives is under God’s control and can be used for His glory and our good. We now know that our GPS took us on a “divine detour” to be able to minister to this family in their time of great need. Please pray for them as they visit their son, and pray for him that he would hold fast to God and, by His strength, become the man God purposed him to be.

This is truly and example of ….”and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.

In Christ, Brenda

We saw so many amazing things happen in Michigan it is difficult to know where to start. On Tuesday March 13 we went to Ryan Correctional in Detroit to minister to the dads there by doing a “Great Dads” seminar and showing the movie “Courageous” to 78 of the dads. It was wonderful listening to these men express their desire to be the dads that their children deserve. There were at least 14 that prayed to receive Christ as their Saviour that day. These men knew that without a relationship with Him they would never be able to be the men they needed to be. Watching 78 inmate fathers, 12 volunteers and even some staff go through the program and sign the “Great Dads” commitment and then take the “Courageous” resolution was thrilling. After this it was hard to imagine the camp at Macomb being able to measure up to this, but God has an infinite supply of blessings and He just kept pouring them out. When we got to Macomb we found a surprise in that the inmates made quilts and totes for the children for the camp. Approximately 8 men and 2 volunteers that were teaching the men to sew made 82 to quilts in about 20 days for the 68 children signed up for the camp. These men took what would have been their recreation time, TV time and general free time to make sure that these children had beautiful quilts, but that is not all. They also decided to help financially with the camp and began to raise money from their fellow inmates. These men that make about $25 a month and have to pay $3.50 for a 15 minute call home raised over $900 in just a few days. More than 500 donations were received to make this possible. After this we knew that God was going to do great things and He did. During the two day event their were at least 6 dads, 10 children, 2 caregivers and 2 volunteers saved and countless others had their relationship with Christ and their families restored. One dad got to see his son for the first time ever without glass between them and the boy is 14 years old. God is so good it would be easy to write volumes and never tell all he did. If you want to experience God’s great blessings just be obedient and follow him. Please continue to pray for the men and their families from Macomb and Ryan.

We arrived home from Dayton, TX around 1:30 am Monday morning, but could still hardly sleep because of all the amazing things God did while we were there. Meeting all the great volunteers and leaders from Texas made me understand very quickly why the ODWG camps are so successful there. Everyone I met was so kind and eager to serve God in whatever way would best glorify Him and serve the camp. I was so impressed by the excellence of their program and felt completely welcomed by everyone.

There were 16 beautiful women in the Marvelous Moms program on Friday, and each was eager to prepare for their children on Saturday. Most were Christians, but several had not been with their children since they had received Christ. Each asked us to pray that their children would be excited to met their “new moms” and that Saturday would be a new beginning for their families.

There was one mom who did pray to receive Christ on Friday, and came to me after she had prayed telling me how God had brought her there. She was supposed to have been transferred the week before, but her paperwork had been misplaced and she was unable to move. Also, her cousin had recently gotten in contact with her and had begun witnessing to her by mail. I was thrilled to hear her say she knew that God has been using all these things to bring her to this “divine appointment” with Him.

Saturday was the answer to prayer for so many of those moms when we saw at least 10 children receive Christ and all the families starting new relationships or strengthening existing ones. As the moms let their children go at the end of the day they all had a renewed determination to continue building these relationships and looking forward to the day they will be permanently reunited with their families.

As we read in our Bible Study on Friday, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22 & 23. Please pray with us that these ladies will continue to renew their strength every morning through Christ, and continue to build on the foundation that God laid on Saturday.

In Christ, Brenda

Words fail to capture what God did this past weekend at the Pender ODWG camp. The volunteers from all the regulars to the mass of new ones worked together as true brothers and sisters. Our time of praise and worship was anointed of God and very few dry eyes could be found. One of the high lights was seeing a six year old boy see his father for the first time since the boy was one month old. God did great things to get that little boy there from Pennsylvania. The young dad could hardly believe he was holding his son and continued to praise God and tell everyone that prayer really works. We saw 18 souls come to Christ from the dads, the children and the caregivers. Another of the powerful things that God did was touch the hearts of some volunteers during the “Forgiven Ceremony”. This is a time we ask everyone, dads as well as volunteers to search their hearts for any hidden thing that may be hindering their walk with the Lord. We heard a powerful message on forgiveness from Russ Murphy and God truly spoke to many. At the time of response many, including volunteers began to write down things that needed to go under the blood and allow Christ to cleanse them and He did! Many have expressed how this weekend has been a life changing event for them. My prayer for all those in attendance is that what they experienced this weekend will only be the beginning of a new more powerful walk in the grace and forgiveness of our Saviour and they will see everyone with the eyes of mercy and love as Christ does. God bless all you volunteers and all the families in attendance. To God be the Glory.

It was a privilege to work with the men from FBC Surfside on Saturday as we conducted a Great Dads seminar with 37 dads at the Williamsburg facility. And then we went back on Monday night and conducted the first of a nine week re-entry class with 21 men. God was working as the men in both sessions began to open up about their desire to be the dads and the men that God intended them to be. They talked of the need for support and accountability from Christian men when they are released. As God began to help me see them as he does, they are merely men created in his likeness that have made mistakes and need to be led to a closer relationship with Christ, their families and other Christian men and women. Christ said that the greatest commandment was to love God with everything in us and to love our neighbor as ourself. My prayer is that over the next eight weeks we as servants of God can truly demonstrate the love that Christ talked about in Mark 12:31. Please pray for the men at Williamsburg Federal Correctional in Salters, SC and the men leading the course that God will be honored in all that is said and done and that men will be better prepared to claim the plan God has for them in Jeremiah 29:11. If you are interested in being a volunteer with Forgiven Ministry or want to help support this ministry please contact us at our office, the e-mail address and phone number are listed on our website. God Bless.

The camp at Ryan and our time in Michigan was so packed with the moving of the spirit I hardly know where to begin. The churches and the volunteers were wonderful and it was evident that they had been praying and were ready to serve, then we get to the facility and the staff and administration of Ryan were so efficient and very helpful, you would have thought they had been doing these camps for years, but it was their first. Every camp for me seems to have at least one event or one moment that really stands out and this one did not disappoint. This one involved one of the dads coming to the place of forgiving someone that he felt had done him wrong. On Saturday morning I had the privilege of sharing with the dads in our time of worship just before their children were to arrive. God laid on my heart to share Matthew 6: 14-15. It reads “14. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,(15) but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Nothing dramatic happened and we went on with our day, until “quiet time” when dads and children talk quietly to one another. During this time one of the dads came to me with his two young daughters. He began to share how he was facing additional sentencing to many more years for a crime that an inmate at another facility told that he had committed in order to receive a lighter sentence himself. He told me he had been angry and wanted revenge until he realized that this was wrong for he had committed the crime. He said that God spoke to him through the scripture that morning that he had to forgive that man if he was going to be able to walk as a Christian dad before his daughters. As he was speaking to me his daughters looked at him with such pride. He had made a commitment to forgive. As our God does when we have a need,he is there with what we need. The dad wanted to let the other man know that he forgave him,and the chaplain from the facility where the other inmate was being housed was there attending this camp. The dad went to the chaplain and ask him to tell the inmate that he forgave him and did not want there to be anything between them. This dad showed his daughters what truly walking with Christ is about. We can’t allow anger, bitterness or anything keep us from being what God wants. He not only told his daughters, but showed them the true act of forgiveness. When faced with the hard decision on whether to forgive or any hard decision in the future, the example their dad showed on Saturday will be there. Let’s all practice Matthew 6:14 and I John 3:18. God Bless.

On Thursday afternoon I was privileged to have a follow-up meeting with the ODWG Dads at Western Youth. All were still talking about the time with their children. Two Dads talked about the impact the day at the Caregivers at Burkemont Church had on their families. It was still hard for some of them to understand why we would do this for them and their families. One of the Dads said his four year old daughter could not stop talking about the day and had told everyone at her school about her day with her dad. The young Dads had the opportunity to see the movie “Courageous” ( courtesy of Burkemont Church) at the camp, and some of them wanted to sign the Resolution to be the men God called them to be. It was my honor to witness some of them sign this pledge. All of the Dads and the staff at the facility wanted to thank all the staff, volunteers and financial supporters for a day they believe will change their families for generations.

I want to personally thank the volunteers and financial supporters for helping make this ministry possible. We will never know until Eternity the full impact of what God is doing through your loving work.
